Bring Me The Horizon
One thing which upset me above all others last month, was that I couldn’t go to see I Killed The Prom Queen because it was on a Wednesday night out in Wyong, bout an hour n’ half away and I (sadly) had to go to school the next day. Firstly, that was the last chance I will ever have to see IKTPQ live, as this is their farewell tour. Secondly, I missed out on seeing Bring Me The Horizon, who are fast becoming one of my favourite bands at the moment. Honestly who wouldn’t want to see the band who’s lead singer was taken to court twice on charges of urinating on a female fan. That’s jus plain badass….also…illegal and degrading to the girl but hay, as long as he keeps singing like he does, he can piss on as many people as he wants…….
Their début EP, This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Is For, released 2005 comprises of four grinding tracks, with demonic breakdowns contrasted with sudden blast beats in the verses. The production quality is a little lacking but does not detract from the enjoyment. Its in their second release, Count Your Blessings, however that BMTH truly come into their own.
From the first track and single, Pray For Plagues I was captivated with their unique sound which initially repulsed me but eventual I fell in love with. To start with, all I heard was a hideous noise, namely the blast beats on the drums and the distorted screams, but something caught my ear and enticed me to continue listening. Each time I stopped the track halfway through and I’d move on to another band….something in the back of my head kept telling me to give them another listen. Over and over this would happen ‘till I became hooked on the technical guitars, catchy and effect drumming patterns and the somewhat inaudible screams which were initially responsible for turning me off the album in the first place.
Oli Sykes, does a superb job as vocalist, utilising the VoxBox to great effect, carrying the song from inaudible, demonic growls, to harsh distorted screams to high pitched clean screams, perfectly synchronising the transition between break down to verse to chorus.
If you haven’t already, get out there and listen to Bring Me The Horizon or at least check out their myspace page. This is one band worth listening to and I’m seriously bummed I didn’t get to see them live. Still theirs always next time, providing they don’t go and break up like IKTPQ *shakes fist*. Till then, I’m anxiously waiting for their second full length album, Suicide Season, due out in September.

Isn't that always what we hear from your speakers?
I like the new background- much easier to read
