Take To The Skies
Enter Shikari....who the hell are they? Their frikin awesome that's who they are!
I met a girl at a party last weekend, she told me to listen to Enter Shikari, told me i would love them. I was thinking, "yeh yeh, probably another trash underground hardcore band".....how wrong i was. She played me a few songs on her phone and wow, was i impressed to say the least.
As soon as i got home, i went straight to their myspace page (wonderful tool for checking out new bands) and listened to every song on there at least five times over.
One of the things i loved the most about The Devil Wears Prada, Still Remains and even Bleeding Through (to some extent) is the use of synths and keyboards. Enter Shikari have taken this a step further, incorporating all that is best in Trance and Post Hardcore, and combining them to create a fantastic, flowing sound, which still retains the hard edge of Post Hardcore.
Forming in 2003 out of their previous band Hybrid, Enter Shikari have released three Ep's and one LP, Take To The Skies in 2007 and are currently working on their second full length album, due out in 2009.
I have not heard anything from their Ep's, I’m guessing that it will be a less refined version of themselves now, probably cheaper sound production and a more harsh tone. this however could not possibly dampen the mood while listening to them. it truly is refreshing to hear a Post-Hardcore band, fully utilise the wonderful instrument called the Keyboard. Modern keyboards are so powerful, they can imitate and create any sound you wish, I really want to see more bands use them more and more because of the flowing feel it creates. In a generic hardcore band, there is a breakdown, usually played with slow chuggy riffs, soft harmonics and spasmodic drum kicks. Adding a soft synth to the breakdown however, really creates a very trance like feel, seeming to carry the song from section to section seamlessly.
This is truly one band to look out for as they push the boundaries of Post Hardcore and I cannot wait until their next release in 2009. get out there and get Take To The Skies, it will not disappoint.
