Victims Or Killers
First let me just say, Missing Limbs is a truly epic album. I have listened to it nonstop from the day I got it. I love the speed, the blend of hardcore and metal without going down a melodic road like Parkway Drive and IKTPQ, so when I first heard the heavier tone of Dropsaw’s new album, Victims and Killers released July 5th, 2008, I was a little cautious of this new sound but I quickly grew to love it as it incorporates all that was found on Missing Limbs while experimenting with a heavier more melodic tone.
The album was produced by The Red Shore’s Roman Koester and its not hard to see how his influence has impacted the heavier sound of this new album
I remember them playing Fictions Largest Character at The Loft on the 10th of April, and being somewhat stunned and also impressed by the change in feel found in the guitars, especially in the intro which ushered in a heavier, more metal-style, guitar influenced sound, utilizing melodic lead breaks while retaining heavy breakdowns and that killer, blasting sound that Dropsaw has perfected so brilliantly.
The album itself follows on from the opening track Fictions Largest Character, some times drifting back into the speed and intensity of Missing Limbs, other times breaking off into melodic breakdowns similar to that of Shinto Katana and Hand Of Mercy.
I cannot say that I enjoy this album more than Missing Limbs, but I can truly appreciate the bands diversity and ability to incorporate different styles into their somewhat unique, ferocious blend of hardcore and metal.
Go ahead and see these guys live, I promise they put on a truly epic, intimate and enjoyable live performance. If you cant get to a gig, get online and do what ever you have to, to get your mitts on Victims Or Killers as it will not disappoint, in fact for those new to Dropsaw it may be advantageous to hear this album first as I feel it is more listener friendly than the brutal, raw and fast passed style of Missing Limbs.
